Besides black and white, the photos/images shown are known as what type of photos?
Correct answer: Hidden mother photos

Sugarbear
Creepy, if you ask me.

Lunarsea
It doesn't really explain why the mothers needed to be hidden. Why not show them too?

Jack
I thought they were dead baby photos at first glance. Another strange practice at that time.

tvtriv
The first one isn't bad, but the other two...yikes!

Blinky
Gives a whole new meaning to "sitting on Mummy's lap"!

RICK-N-BACHER
the Doors were right, People are strange.

CyanJaguar62
I'm surprised the babies didn't totally freak out. I can't imagine our kids doing this.

Jenny
The Victorian era was brilliant and exciting but also creepy and barbaric. Very much "the best of times and the worst of times"!

my great aunt had a big family, but died in childbirth with her last baby. her husband had a family portrait done and her image imposed on it. it was very creepy, and did not look real.

Artemisia
Victorian photography in general is creepy . Consider the dead baby photography , too

Monica
Barb@70, some in the beginning stages of decomposition. Eek.

Barb@71
Sugarbear, Not as creepy as photographs of deceased children

PerkyLin
So disappointing not to show the mother! I have a photo of my g-grandfather with my mother (then a baby) and her siblings clustered around! If he had been covered, I wouldn't even know what he looked like, no other photo of him!

Bijou
Lunarsea, I know! What is that all about? Was it considered immodest for a Victorian mother to pay for a photograph that included herself? Bizarre. Even for the Victorians...

Aastha Verma
tvtriv, Yes you are right, in first photo it is looking like the baby is seating on a chair but the next two photos clearly looks that there is someone behind but have to be hidden to get there babies photographs.😔😔

Player #44608313, Someone did the same thing, putting my grandfather in the photo. He didn't look real either.
