Agatha Christie started the "Cozy" mystery genre. She is still the best. I have read some of her stuff ten times.

Holmes & Poirot are two of my very favorite characters. I've only read a couple of the Poirot books, but I loved the PBS series. Christie's "Miss Marple" is good too.
