In which country did the artistic movement called Symbolism originate?

I've not been to France

Most of the artistic movements originated in France. And Paris was known as the City of Light(s). I'm saying these because they are true, not because I am French, which I am not anyway 🙂 Let's render to Caesar what is rightfully Caesar's. Not English either, so sorry if I misspelled something.
