The £ symbol was always used before 1970. Never saw L used.

The name may be in use but is it the same currency after decimalisation as it was before? We changed the number of pennies in a pound and replaced all the old coins and notes, got rid of shillings and sixpence. Sounds like Trigger's broom!

Fredrico, I spent an entire summer with a family in High Wycombe. I came from the States in '72, and it was a real culture shock at the time. I loved learning the currency and putting shillings in the meter when gas or electricity went out! Thought of the Beatles every time I heard the term bob. (Mean Mr. Mustard) Though it's been so many years, I will forever treasure the many, many memories I have that seem like yesterday.
