The consumption of Guinea pigs goes back thousands of years in South America. Called cuy, it is a valuable source of protein at high altitude where there are few domestic animals.

I had heard that Guinea Pigs were being promoted in CA as the best and most responsible food choice for Americans. Much less costly than paying for a cow until slaughter.
