Eucalyptus... has dried thousands of springs and natural water sources in Tanzania. Though great for timber and pulp, it destroys the natural habitat of millions of biodiversity. I don't know why our government is still advocating to plant them.

Player #85315195, smile, Trees need water. Most have a root system at least as wide as their canopy. Gardeners don't even try to plant veg near them. Hence orchards being used for grazing animals, before we all got lazy and started using dwarf rooting stocks.

Trixie, I read that as Tasmania, oops! I heard they had been a bit troublesome outside of Australasia, even here in Oz they tend to explode during a bushfire and make things worse. Pretty bark though 😅

Decades ago in Southern California farmers would plant certain eucalyptus as wind breaks to protect their orchards of orange, walnut, and other fruit trees. Never heard of the trees draining the water table as many used wells in those days.
