Linen fabric has often been used to provide the outer covering of the wings, fuselage, and tail section of small (& perhaps larger airplanes); much better than cotton but ultimately replaced by polyester fabrics, in particular Ceconite, a special blend of polyester fibers.

Linen is one of the best choices to wear in hot climates. Since flax is a reed it is naturally much cooler than cotton or hemp fibers. Unfortunately, it tends to wrinkle easily and is significantly more expensive....but, linen sheets on a hot summer's night is just pure bliss!!
