Chester comes from Latin word “castra”, meaning “camp” or a military outpost. “Caster”, as found in many English place names comes from the same root. (And they told me my Latin would be of no use.)

BlueEyedAlien, I agree! Latin helps me often. I'm a veteran magazine writer, and Latin is great for figuring out word spellings. Knowing where words come from is fascinating, I've found, and can really fill out a concept, enriching stories!
