I have an ancient bumper sticker that says, "Beam me up, Scotty. There's no intelligent life down here." I keep it framed on my desk.

Megan , I has happened more than once in real oufe. During World War 1, the South African Brigade fought at the battle of Dellville Wood. Very few survived. The son of one of the few survivours told me how his dad survived. The day before the battle commenced, his father was looking over the top of the trench when a German sniper shot him. The sniper aimed for his heart. The bullet recocheted off his cigarette case, gouging a line down his chest and leg. He was in hospital when the battle commenced and lost most of his comrades.

Oh my, a real life situation where a bullet was stopped by something innocuous that the intended victim was wearing. We see this situation on TV and in movies countless times but I didn't know that there was an actual real life incident in which it occurred. When I read this I thought about the 1993 movie "The Three Musketeers" where Charlie Sheen's character is saved from a bullet to the chest by a cross necklace he was wearing. When this was revealed his line was "See, there is a God"

I noticed the injury in an episode of Twilight Zone "Valley of the Shadow". So I studied the Scotty character closely after that and it is noticeable but you have to know about it to see. He covers it up well.
