Anadromous comes from a Greek word that means against (ana) the way (dromos). it refers to the journey salmons make against the river water flow too lay their eggs.

Player #120374466, I believe both males and females die after spawning. they don't make their way down to the sea a second time.

The opposite is (Catadromous) when fish spend most of their lives in fresh water, then migrate to the sea to breed
