STEPHEN BODDY, try making one with chili beans instead of rice and gravy. Place the patty at the bottom, top with chili beans add egg at the end. Serve with hash browns or use them under the patty. Delicious !! We call it a hamburger steak. Served at local hamburger inns in El Paso, Texas

The "Beach Hut" in Torrance, CA, makes a great loco moco. They were originally located in El Porto, CA, at the outskirts of my hometown Manhattan Beach, CA. In the 70's we would say "it's da kine", a Hawaiian term.
