Mike, this is untrue. Originally the game was played with dismembered enemies heads if one is thinking in a gory way but the actual term is a shortened form of association in university slang. They didn’t use the first three letters for obvious reasons . It was to differentiate between football and rugby (rugger) and came into being in the late 19th century.
