He must have been a prodigy, genius!

Lorraine
my French teacher spoke 8 languages but thought herself ignorant because her siblings all spoke more than 10. She was a lovely woman, but couldn't teach me more than basic French.

Arabella
He must have been a great musician, too, to be able to pick up the different intonation and pronounciation.

Mr_Hve_Fun
FarraH, With today’s technology it is possible, but it requires discipline, diligence, and patience. For instance, you can pick Italian, however throughout Italy there are varied dialects, expressions and pronunciations. I am just saying I really don’t know. I grew up in an English speaking household. My ancestry is Mexican, but Spanish from Mexico is different from Spain, Central America and South America. Don’t get me wrong learning another language can be fun. Sorry for being long winded, I hope I was of help. I wish I could dominate three languages, but as someone wrote here as I get older I need to master English — Especially my writing skills.

I would love to know his IQ or whether he had a photographic memory. Sounds like an exceptional individual.

Ricardo, it is not the easiest. It’s actually a very complicated language. I admire people from other countries who speak English.

Taufan-The Windara Light
he could speak 39?! Wow! Awesome fact

Taufan-The Windara Light
that's so cool!

Ricardo, English is NOT an easy language to learn. Grammar structure, varying pronunciation, and the fact that English has close to a million words, many of foreign origin, make English a difficult language to learn.

What an incredible mind. Here I was impressed with Cleopatra knowing at least 9 languages, but knowing close to 40 is ridiculous. I’ve always wanted to learn more languages, though they say the best time to learn is when you’re young. I’m very impressed with people who speak multiple languages.

l can easily-fluently speak 3 languages however l am rubbish at maths, l love languages and being bilingual is a great "freedom feeling" when travelling...

Player #120374466, That's exactly what most monks spent their time doing: translating religious texts and copying them by hand into beautiful, fragile books.

When in doubt...Pick the most ridiculous answer. Hahahah

Player #120374466: There were vernacular bibles around for centuries before Cardinal Mezzofanti was born!

Ariah , not always. And it is a weird thing for this quiz to obsessively feature. It should be about knowledge and learning and not about the length of the question.

Too bad he didn't put his knowledge of Hebrew and Greek to work in translating from those languages of the Holy Scriptures into the vernacular of the common people There was a need for that back then
