we had butcher birds in Central California, but don't know if they are related and hunt/eat in the same way...new info for me

Jonesy, I live in East Texas. Saw a Coach Whip snake hanging on a thorn of a mesquite tree with the thorn piercing through it's throat up through the head. The wind was blowing and the snake was just hanging on the thorn gently being blown in the breeze like an Addams Family Christmas tree ornament. I was amazed how that bird did that. I saw the bird over on a another tree watching a field mouse. I walked on for I saw enough. Amazing hunting skills.
