According to the Bible, who was “the disciple whom Jesus loved”?

There’s a much less literal way to look at this. Whenever the author mentions “the disciple whom Jesus loved” he’s talking about us. That’s how I read it.

John was the nephew of Jesus. John spent his life teaching in holy places. He lived until 93. I think most of the apostles tragically died early.
