It’s thought by many older observers that the English fast bowler of the 1950s, Frank ‘Typhoon’ Tyson, was the fastest ever, with several liming he hit over 110mph & he himself claiming his fastest was 119mph! The only time the ball was tracked was an experiment done on a cold damp morning in New Zealand. They fixed metal plates on the ball & track with sonar. However he was testing the method rather than his playing speed, so kept on 3 sweaters & took none of his legendary run-up. The speed was clocked at 89mph - but with freer arms, his long full run up & a standard weight ball one can certainly add 20 mph to this figure.

Kiwozzie, they did not use speed guns, I think retrospectively they can get an idea looking at frame by frame video. I don't know?
