Which animals sleep by resting half of their brain at a time?
Correct answer: Dolphins
z
wow! I didn't know this fact. Thank you! 😊
Hugo
I wonder how other sea mammals are sleeping... whales for example or sea lions... in the same way like dolphins or other way? 🤔
Samuel
Birds also sleep one side of the brain at a time, helps with migration. We can't do this because our hemispheres are too well connected by the corpus collosum which joins the hemispheres and constantly communicates between the spheres.

I must be a dolphin then because I always feel half asleep.

"so long and thanks for all the fish!"
Kelly
Maybe dolphins are just visiting for the fish!? Not only are their brains larger than ours, they name themselves, can kill sharks and even preform an act that is humanly illegal...
Now I learn they can rest one half their brain at one time!? Not fair!! Think about how much more things we'd get accomplished!

Samuel , does this mean that a predator’s attack is more likely to be successful if made on the sleeping side—with birds or dolphins?
I realize you may not know either but I don’t see a way to comment without responding to another’s comment.
Demi
Don't cats do this too?
Trish
z, wow, never knew that. amazing!
