What is a new Imperialism?

This is a very poor question insofar as asks “ what is a NEW Imperialism” but then concentrates on a few historical empires . The question setter also has one glaring error in relation to the world’s largest non contiguous empire, namely the British Empire which is stated as being built in the 15th-17th centuries. The peak of the British Empire was , I believe, in 1922, at which time the sun never set on the Empire -it was so widespread that a component was always in daylight. Even at this time the British were looking forward to the end of Empire due to the enormous costs it entailed.
