What tragic incident happened to Canadian Buffalo Sabers goaltender Clint Malarchuk in 1989?
Correct answer: His neck was hit by a skate blade but he survived

What a terrible accident, I am so glad he survived
Damwic
That's when it was decided that every hockey player need to use a neck guard so no more freak accidents will happen.

RSVP78, I think hockey players lose more teeth than NFL players.
Assiddeeq
wow! glad he survived it
John
Yes I remember watching that game. He got up quick with his hand over his neck and skated fast toward the bench. Scary
Player Say what!?
Damwic , A hockey player was just killed the same way recently. Neck guards were not required, but due to this last deliberate killing, they will be now. The offender has been charged, btw.

Both my boys played, and I prayed every time they were on the ice. The recent death of a player will probably bring in neck guards which I know they don’t care for. (My son refused to wear one) However, it might help save a life.
RICK-N-BACHER
Sassy, his neck is showing in my photo and it looks completely healed.
Duchess
too bad all hockey players weren't required to wear guards! It could have saved the life of the young man from Mn, playing in England. (Does anybody recall his name?)

The level of violence allowed (almost expected) in hockey is ridiculous.

we don't..."get into" a plane crash or a car accident! we either experienced 1 or other OR simply "had a ..." 😉

Is that why only his eyes are showing in the picture and not his neck
Xava
I feel bad for him, but thank God he survived.
