When was the world population half of today's roughly 7.9 billion people?
Correct answer: 1974

Sheriffe
Strange how, in all this kerfuffle about climate change and racing to carbon net zero, no one has mentioned the elephant in the room- over population and an economic system which requires population growth to function. Unfortunately it looks like the world is going to solve the problem in the way it has twice before, world war. If it does happen hopefully the survivors will be smart enough to institute an economy that only requires a stable population.

Nix
population growth by people who can't support themselves let alone a child.

Sulley
Sheriffe, Agreed. I think our demise will be due to climate change, AI, or as you said, war. Yet nature will persist and thrive and be so much better off without us.

LeilaniC
Sheriffe, plenty of us have mentioned over population but no one wants to do anything about it

Vhicjhun
Population will decrease due to natural disasters cause of climate change.

Lionessa
Nature controls the population of any species whose numbers grow too large for their environment. In our case, I'm thinking water shortages (already happening) and returning famines from climate change. These will bring wars between the Haves and the Have-nots. Also standing in the wings are real diseases like small pox or some new mutation of flu. The two together killed ONE BILLION people in the 20th century.

I’m just going to be honest with myself because I’m really tired of this job and I’m just trying not too hard and I’m trying not too much

LeilaniC, And what, pray tell, would be your solution to this situation? No one wants to talk about it because most, if not all, suggestions are, at the very least, sounding like a complete lunatic with impossible crazy suggestions; and at the most, an utterly psychopathic murderer. We know, bring on all of the thumbs down.

oh that's a scary thought

Why would we want to double our birth rate? We can't feed, clothes and house us as it is. P. S. I watched the SpaceX rocket with a payload of satellites. "Mars here they come!"
