Uncle Roger, exactly. Dumpling is not a typical food for CNY in South China, where nian gao (rice cake) or sponge cake, fish, etc. are commonly eaten for CNY. This question is misleading, in which "in the North China" should have been added, to match the answer. Due to the diversity in China, customs of Han in North China is different from those in South China, let alone other 55 ethnic minorities.
