What is a cloudburst?

I think this must have been what we experienced over Leicestershire, I've never seen such a heavy downpour with rain and hailstones bigger than golf balls, which we've never had before. It started with the sky turning black everyone came out in the middle of the day to witness it then it just unleashed the rain and hail so drastically. It dented all cars, smashed all green houses, conservatories, roof tiles and turned the streets into shallow rivers, it only lasted about 5 mins but caused so much damage on 27th June 2012

I have seen these from a distance. Maybe lethal if you were under it but pretty spectacular to see.
