Keek, yeah... a lot of people aren't American. One might say most people aren't. And while American history is big here, man other places skim over it (because, contrary to popular belief, we aren't the center of the world, and actually compared to most countries we have very little history.

missy189, Junior high school students should know this. I studied history in college and George Washington, was not discussed. We were expected to know basic history. If we did not, we would have been lost. I do realize a lot of players are from other countries. I am from America, but I have studied a great deal of British history. I find it a lot more interesting than our history.

Tannar33, I am pretty sure that you have a choice to pick your country from the beginning. I am going to double check.... any American should get that correct if they passed first grade.

Player #3327671, What history book did you read. Washington was not only the first President, but he was given the responsibility to decide what the American leader would be called. Several titles were suggested to him. He chose to be called President.

Near the town of High Wycombe is a village called West Wycombe that George Washington visited. The story there goes that he came over to pitch the idea that the British parliament should move to the "New World" the USA.....that would have been interesting!

Steven, I’ve been googling for 30 minutes and can’t find any corroboration of this letter. All accounts are that he didn’t really want to be president and that there are only three surviving letters from George to Martha. I think he really wanted a nap...

Brina, John Hanson was neither the first person to serve as president or to be elected to the position under the Articles of Confederation. When the Articles went into full effect in March 1781, rather than elect a new president, Congress simply allowed Samuel Huntington of Connecticut to continue serving as president. On July 9, 1781, Congress elected Samuel Johnston of North Carolina as the first president after the ratification of the Articles. When Johnston declined to serve, Congress elected Thomas McKean of Delaware. However, McKean served for less than four months, resigning in October 1781. It was not until the next session of Congress convened in November 1781, that Hanson was elected as the first president to serve a full term as president. I have seen no evidence that he was a Black man.
