Where is Subic, Zambales?
Correct answer: Philippines

My Dad was stationed in Subic from 1960 to ‘62, then he got out for a couple years, That’s where he met my Mom. So, anyway, I may have the dates out of place, but I remembered that after owning a bar for a couple years (maybe three) with my Mom, right outside San Miguel Base, he decided to go back into the Navy after that. That may be right around ‘67, a year before we left the Philippines. To make the long story short, my Dad decided to go back to the Philippines for another two years, in ‘76, which at first my brother and I were disappointed but glad in the long run that he decided to go back. It was a bitter-sweet experience and saw the situation were also sad (especially how both the elderly and children were living in a very poor situation - seeing them begging for whatever people can give them. The children will dive into the water for the bottles that were thrown into a filthy river, right outside the Subic Base gates, crossing the bridge into Olongapo City. It was a sad sight to see, but since I was at my own self-centered world, I didn’t know any better because I thought I was in my own experience to have fun and dance the night away.
Now, that I’m older, pray for not only the children and the elderly, not only in the Philippines but all the Third World countries in this world.

My ex-husband was in the US Navy and was often at Subic Bay on the ship. I visited there for two weeks in 1979. the base was beautiful with all kinds of shopping, dining, and recreational facilities. Unfortunately, Olongapo City, right outside of the base was extremely poor and dirty, with people living in horrible conditions.

As an US Air force family we lived at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines in 1967 through 1969 and loved the Philippines. We would go to Subic Bay to shop sometimes at the Navy Base.
Our youngest child was born at the Clark Air Force Base hospital. It's sad to think of the Air Firce Base and the Navy Base being closed.

Tom, you wouldn’t happen to be in the navy would you Tom? Many veterans of the U.S. Navy remember Subic Bay and the navy’s shipyard there
