I wonder what it houses now, assuming the telephony exchange equipment has massively reduced in size?

The building has also been described as the likely location of a National Security Agency (NSA) mass surveillance hub codenamed TITANPOINTE.

It started in the 50s! Any AT&T or Bell Telephone buildings that were near a shore were made of concrete or bricks with NO windows. My Dad worked at the one at 840 Poydras St in downtown New Orleans. Same thing. I ended up working there 40 years later!

AutumnalCrust12, I retired after working in those buildings in Denver and around the country when needed. None of the switching offices have windows for security reasons. If the enemy wanted to bring the US to its knees, knocking out the only communication centers, at that time, would do the trick.

NERGIS H., no way would I go in a building with no windows but working it?? If there was a fire I would want windows I can jump from, I don’t care if it was the top floor out the window I go. Better than burning to death.

Very, VERY unhealthy place to work. Surprised it was permitted to be built. God forbid if fire broke out.

Danny G, I wud think that windows may cause condensation, not needed in that environment, just a guess..

RICK-N-BACHER, maybe for safety , nobody can break in or out , fires can’t blow the windows out . And don’t have to worry about someone shooting at you through the windows. I really don’t know !
