Smooth, You're telling my story. I came from a place where the worst thing that ever happened was a 5.5 earthquake (easy peasy), and many deep freeze blizzards, where the power stayed on, unlike here. Every time the wind blows or it gets cold outside in Texas, the power goes out. They are, in my opinion, criminally negligent. 200 people froze to death in Texas in February of 2021 because ERCOT is utterly incompetent.

fran, oh Fran,, you said how I feel. I lived 30 minutes from Lake Tahoe NV all my life. Moved to southern AR. 10 years ago. Tornados are my worst fear. Earthquakes are normal to me.

BamaBell, Tornadoes come at all hours of the day and night, everywhere they occur. They don't happen only at night in some places and only day in others. I live deep in Tornado Alley, and I've only been in one daytime tornado (I was in the car and it was a VERY close call). Every other tornado that has come near my city, entered my city, or passed by my neighborhood has come at night. That just adds another level to the heart pounding terror. You don't understand how big they really are until there's one close by. This is a thing that, if big and fast enough, can peel the asphalt off the roads and carry it away, leaving only a dirt road behind. This thing can peel paint off buildings and lift a foot of topsoil and carry it away, grass, weeds, and lawn chairs included. And it can pick up my house and spin it around itself in it's outside winds like some weird carousel, then throw it half a mile away. We hate what we fear, and I hate tornadoes.

Just look at the word. epiCENTER
BrainTek
ofc at the epicenter as that is essentially the point of fault rupture or initiation point of the quake

fran, We used to have fun during a tornado alert. I lived in an apartment complex and all of the adults would grab radios(transistor), blankets, picnic baskets of food and bottles of 🍷. Then we'd all head down to the tornado shelter and have a party until the broadcast gave the all clear. One year the broadcast reported that the tornado was about 2 blocks away so some of the adults went up to watch it.

fran, I don't live in so called tornado ally but we sure get a lot of them here in Tennessee!

The explanation says that it originates from the focus so, are they saying that nothing is felt at that time?
fran
YSL, I'm happy that I live in earthquake country rather than tornado country.
YSL
Fault is also correct.
