One rule that I follow is stick to comfy shoes whenever possible. My mother had bunion problems all her life and although poverty during childhood meant cheap, shoddy shoes, I made sure I had good quality comfy shoes later on.

Portia
I have one and it's agony!!

I have a friend who always used to yell at me that I had no fashion sense when I would wear comfortable shoes to work and she always wore pointed shoes or high heels. She had to have the b unions removed from her feet twice. I told her after the first time to buy pumps instead of high heels and shoes that didn't bind her feet, but she always wanted to be fashionable at work. She said that I dressed like a bag lady! My feet are fine and I refused to be in pain for 8 to twelve hours a day to be fashionable!

toe jam
just like gout.

pam, Beauty hurts!! I am like your friend. I preferred heels and now I am suffering the consequences at age 60.

Bambi, A hammer toe is when the tip of the toe points down toward the floor, and the second joint stretches and curls over. I have one toe that does this. The nail actually grows over the top of the toe like a cup. It's not painful, but the nail does jab the sole of my shoes.

Bambi
I think this condition is also called "Hammer toe" , very painful sometimes. In the internet there are some gadgets that help slow down the advance of the condition. I bought some and it really helps

hi
yes probably heridatory, but you can slow it down, let your feet be themselves as much as possible!

I have bunions, they are hereditary and started forming when I was a little girl. I got one straightened and the pain was so bad I'm afraid to do the other! I don't wear heels or tight fitted shoes, never did. I knew my limits!

Talaith
I could never understand the need to be in pain, wearing ugly pointy high heeled shoes just to look good when in fact it just makes you look silly and brainless

Trainwreck
Meme, they can come back. I've had them removed from both feet and one is returning on my left foot. More painful than the original. It has been more than a decade though.

flr
I have it, and it is hereditary. started by age 12. Mother and both sisters. Pointy shoes don't cause it. The long bone from the ankle is on an angle rather than straight. That's what causes bunions.

CyanJaguar62
Predominantly in women because too many wear those ridiculous spike heels for the sake of fashion. Modern day foot binding!

Meme
Portia, find a podiatrist and have it removed! I did. Both big toes. You’ll never have problems with it again.

midget
toe jam, YES I agree 💯. it's just like gout and it's painful
