Addam, The span of one life is recent time, and I was here in the 60s and 70s. The bottom line, for me is that hip-hop promotes a very negative attitude toward women that translates to the real world in the form of terrible violence. Women of all races are dying for nothing more than being a woman, dying at the hands of men who listen to that music day and night. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.

I recall hearing about ho cakes back in the mid to late 80s in a movie called Hollywood shuffle with Robert Townsend apparently Winky Dinky Dog's must've been a success with the addition of the Winky Dinky Dog's ho cakes added to the menu cause hoes have to eat too

"Ho" is a recent addition to the English language, as far as I know (and I don't care enough to verify). It originated in criminal gang culture and their foul, primitive "music." Hip hop is a profoundly disturbing, intensely negative influence on children, adults, and society, telling them that guns, violence, murder, and "kill the cops," is how to get along in life. Just a few decades ago, it would have been labeled 'obscene' and taken off the air.

Growing up in the 1950s south, I remember hoecake being used to refer to skillet cornbread. I don't recall seeing these essentially cornmeal pancakes.

Elle, That's what I'd heard, cooked on a hoe as a makeshift griddle in the fields. The explanation gives makes more sense.

They sound dreadfully bland to me !! I like all my food smothered in crushed red pepper, chili powder and paprika as well as garlic salt, onion powder and lots of sour cream !! By the time I'm done, I can't even tell what I am eating, but it's always flavorful !
