We have opossums in our Southern California neighborhood. They are nocturnal. When they are alarmed, they really do "freeze" - or, "play 'possum"!

IN CALIFORNIA, WE HAD AN OPOSSUM IN OUR TRASH CAN. SCARED THE TAR OUT OF US. WE DIDNT KNOW IF IT WOULD BITE.

Mel, I’ve had them in my fruit trees and grape vines. I can’t stand them, they look like a giant mutant rat! I found a hack on YouTube that helped me get rid of them( or at least keep them out of my yard! Chili powder, Cayenne pepper and or black pepper. Any of these (or mixture is more effective) when sprinkled around perimeter and any place you suspect possums might hide. I will also keep other animals out of garden beds. It not really harmful to domestic pets, ie dogs and cats, but they will avoid the irritating smell as well.

Player #131237930, don't kill them. To my knowledge their the only thing that will eat ticks!!! They may bite if cornered, but they aren't aggressive.
