Who was Fyodor Dostoevsky?

eh, not much into Russian writing. I was teaching a family of Russian immigrants English. They had a grandfather that got thrown in a gulag for his paintings. Only thing is, the man was legally blind. His family would visit him in the gulag and help him paint and would give him the colors that he wanted. The only way they made it to America is by selling some of his paintings. They escaped with some of his forbidden paintings.
