they have black skin and colorless fur with hollow tubular structure. refraction causes us to see them as white, but they are not actually white in color.

Lilly Nicholson is incorrect. Polar Bears are black. Their fur is clear and hollow, reflecting light and insulating them.

Dude... I thought it is a trick question? Polar bears aren't actually white. Turns out, they can come in all sorts of colors: yellow, gray, orange, and even green. That's because polar bear fur is transparent and hollow. When light strikes the outer fur some of it is absorbed while the rest is scattered away. Interestingly, the polar bear's coat has no white pigment; in fact, a polar bear's skin is black and its hairs are hollow. They have a thick layer of body fat, which keeps them warm while swimming, and a double-layered coat that insulates them from the cold Arctic air.
