Why are polar bears white?

Polar bears fur is translucent so whilst it does indeed appear white in actual fact it isn't.

Zappo, the colour white gives off no heat, the skin colour black does. Therefore it heat's the fur of the bear and stops it from freezing.

I love polar bears, they are my favourite animal

With white all around the polar bears that fur camouflages the polar bears.
