I think Amityville Horror would have been much more compelling and frightening if they had told the true story of Ronald DeFeo murdering his entire family, rather than trying to make that ugly house into a haunted house.

The Remake came out on 2005. The ORIGINAL Movie was released in 1979 - two years after the book - starred Margot Kidder, James Brolin & Rod Steiger. The book was a terrifying read for a 12 year old.
