Player Say what!?, Yeah, it's not delicious, but when it's all you have to eat, it serves.

Myffa, P.S. The Presbyterians who promoted Hogmanay over the allegedly Papist Christmas would NOT approve the amounts of alcohol consumed. (Or any, at all). They should have stuck with Christmas!

Up-Helly-Aa is also (technically) Scottish and even more spectacular. It takes place in Lerwick, in the Shetland Isles ( who dont always consider themselves Scottish, especially as they are nearer to Norway). It is a Fire Festival that celebrates their Viking ancestry. It culminates in a torch- lit parade when 46 groups dressed as Vikings, with flaming torches, march through the town to the beach, and set fire to a replica Viking boat they constructed through the year, and send it out to sea.Stunning.( Better than watching a lot of people getting drunk and staggering through the streets.)

I, my sister, and a friend visited Edinburgh for a few days and had never heard of this, but sure saw a lot of celebrations! Traditionally, they eat sheep's stomachs. Ugh.

Terry Pratchett sort of rolled Christmas together with Hogmanay to create Hogswatch and the Hogfather. :-D
