Agoraphobia means fear of open spaces.

I knew a woman who had lived with severe agoraphobia for a long time. She was in her forties when I knew her but looked like a twenty-year old because she’d been indoors all her life, away from traffic fumes and the Australian sun.

some phobias are so strange you wonder why they made a name for them, but this seems legit.

Tina
Agreed… it’s a fear of open spaces.

Agoraphobia means not going outside your home.

Agoraphobia is literally Fear of the Marketplace. This answer is misleading because it's more of a social fear than a situational fear.

I should know !! I've had agoraphobia since I was twelve, there's only one REAL way to treat it, to constantly expose yourself to situations you're very fearful of, medications are near to useless for this debilitating disorder and can make the problem worse even.

Terrible description of the phobia. “Agora” is Greek for market or shopping area. The clue should have included something about a market or a gathering area.
