In the UK it became compulsory to wear seat belts in the front of a car in 1983. Wearing rear seat belts didn't become compulsory until 1991.

Sassy, I think cars have always had seats, though maybe some had bench seats.

Sassy, As a child in the 1970s I always had to wear a seatbelt. My parents did too.

I remember in the 70s when hardly no one wore their seatbelts. It wasn’t enforced till the 80s. The same with car seats.
