In nature, what is known as a 'chicken of the woods'?

Everything tastes like chicken.

I have never heard of such a thing.

It is actually called “Hen of the Woods”

Wisenheimer , it doesn’t describe it very well. It grows on wood, so if you’ve ever seen a bit of a “shelf” growing on an old tree stump, or out of the side of a tree, quite often in the fork of a living tree, that is this mushroom. It is usually the first mushrooms gathered by newbies, as there are no versions which are poisonous. Big ones can be intimidating, though!

I used to make egg drop soup with the chicken of the woods and does indeed taste like I added chicken

Yes, it does have a chicken flavor. Let it soak in buttermilk first to make it more tender.

I have found two of these, and they do taste like chicken, sort of.😉
