cika pera, It has to do with the Saami people who have been called "Lapps" for years. "Lapp" and "Lapland" are not what they prefer to be called.

There is power in a name, and refusing to call an adult by their preferred name, especially in business, is an insidious way to take someone's power. If my name is Deborah (it isn't), and a colleague (usually male) introduces me to a group of junior executives as "Debbie," and he continues to do it after being corrected, he's not just being friendly. It's designed to throw a person off balance and take away their power.
