V.i.v.i.p., Jersey has them too...there's a Cherry Blossom festival every year in April. In fact, some of the local schools participate in writing essays about what our parks & the Cherry Blossoms mean to students and they have also drawn pictures depicting their fondness for our parks...many have won wonderful prizes for entering & participating in the writing & drawing contests💗

My dad has a Japanese cherry tree in his back yard. Plus apple and pear trees, a grape with wild grapes, a big garden with strawberries and watermelons. There are cucumbers, hot peppers, bell peppers, field peas, etc. Corn he quit growing because it was too hard to keep it watered. He lives in Williamsburg, VA.

The term sakura on its own is ambiguous, and could be used to mean either the tree or the blossom. There is also the word sakuragi meaning cherry tree. The addition of ki, “tree” makes this distinction clear. (ki changes to gi as an instance of rendaku)
