Jerms, The entire population of the Falkland Islands wanted desperately to remain British, which is why Britain sacrificed many lives and countless millions of pounds to defend them. Argentina only became seriously interested when they thought there was oil under the surrounding seas, and their government wanted to make itself more popular at home.

Portia, Yes, it is complicated, Great Britain ( aka the United Kingdom of Britain and Northern Ireland) is a union of 3 countries (England, Wales and Scotland) plus the 6 occupied counties in the North of Ireland. (The latter being _sometimes_ referred to as a 'Province') To complicate it more, Wales is often referred to as a Principality, as it had Princes rather than kings, meaning it wasn't recognised as a kingdom. ( And you can be a country, without being a kingdom).. No wonder it all confuses people - even the natives !

antzuzu, The 'British Isles' is a geographers name for the whole landmass (though Ireland dislikes it, obviously). 'Britain' is just a lazy shorthand for Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

"Great"? I will refer Britannia as "Great Britain " when Ireland rightfully has Northern Ireland again, and the Faulkland Isles are returned to Argentina. Imperialism is a scourge upon the human race.
