Walken was great but I dislike this movie. I recorded it for my roommate back when someone had to put a tape in a machine and push buttons. I was the night owl (late show) so I volunteered. I was depressed for days, traumatized by this film. It's not a bad film at all, just can affect you deeply.

Saw this when 1st released and hadn't yet heard much about it. Wow! Powerful, important movie that I discovered I couldn't talk about for a few months without weeping. It's possible the fact that 2 good friends of mine were killed there and so it affected me more. I'll never know.

Stellar film with a marvelous cast! Sadly, with the exception of very few, past Gen X, would see it & if so, most would not be impacted by it; that is if they did not ditch past the first 15 minutes. Unfortunately, most of the TV shows & films released nowadays do not hold a candle to many of the older or classic films & TV shows of years gone by. IMHO

KC, Me too! Even though I know the outcome it still leaves me feeling so nervous and gripped. Amazing film and acting!

RushMama2112, I went to this movie on a first date. After the film was over, we couldn't think of anything to say. We parted ways with a sense that we'd endured something tragically profound and that there was nothing that could follow it.

I was 17 when this film was released, it was a very impactful film that really grabbed your emotions.

Ever
powerful film full of great acting, leaves a long lasting impression in one...but the film l found really hard to digest was Midnight Express, another classic like so many other fantastic films made in the ~70's...impressive times(l was just born then myself)

Like most other commentators, I was deeply affected by this movie. I enlisted in the US Army two weeks after US officially pulled out of Vietnam. While I was not in combat, I lost several friends in that senseless war.

LadyMissCarly & KC, That alone tells a lot about a person as well.

One of the few films that can leave you traumatised afterwards. You think about it for months after.

Cat Mom, Simply because very few movies have an outstanding script, actors and a director that puts you in that place with them. This is not just a movie. Watch it and you may not be so flip.

Cat Mom
I never saw it and wonder why so many of you talk like it was some kind of live war action or something instead of actors in a movie

Yvey, what is 2-18?

Yvey
Oh. My. Goodness. I too was absolutely traumatised by this movie when I saw it in my 20’s.It was, back then, a 2-18 rated movie. It is rather consoling to read all these comments as I thought I was one of the few that “felt it”. Now I know I was never alone. Do not want to see it again for old-time sake as I’m now in my 50’s. Once in a lifetime is enough.

One of my long, very long list of movies of my life. I was a child when I first heard the soundtrack. The Shadows. Beautiful, and powerful. So it is the film.

Redd0323
Agreed! I felt that way, too

CyanJaguar62
Parts of it were filmed in my hometown.
