Some of the super marathons are crazy long, going for days. Not a complaint, if people get joy from doing these, great.

And where did it come from? According to history, a man ran the distance in Greece, to advise of a battle victory from (or to) Marathon in Greece. Upon delivering the news, he collapsed and died of exhaustion.
