In the US, capital punishment is extremely expensive. A person is separately confined for decades while the sentence is appealed through various courts all the way to the Supreme Court. It would be much less expensive to have the person serve in the general prison population with a sentence of life without parole. Then there are the botched executions. A veterinarian does a much better job.
