My parents referred to the thick fog of San Francisco as pea soup. But that fog doesn't match the definition of having industrial pollution. Just thick condensation in areas close to the ocean. And i do like split pea soup.

Not only London was affected by it apparently my home town of Stoke used to have it due to the smoke bellowing from the bottle kilns, of which not many remain, those that do are listed buildings.
