What is a more common word for myopia?

confused initially as we call it short sightedness

In Britain it's called Short-sightedness. I was born with the opposite problem. I was very longsighted.

to me, short-sightedness has nothing to do with physical vision. It's more about doing something without thinking about longer term consequences
