In which country was the Biafra War fought?

When I was a child my parents often mentioned the Biafrans as people who suffered extreme poverty and hunger because of this war. I don't know if this is true.

I met many Biafran activists online. They don't feel Nigerians. Furthermore, they believe that many countries especially USA care for their liberation cause and aspiration... but in fact nobody outside Nigeria care or interested about their cause.
