I’m from Alaska. I have lots of Inuit Eskimo friends. Inuit are a type of Eskimo so are Yupik. I have lots of Eskimo friends. It is not considered derogatory here. That’s totally a Canadian thing. People really need to relax. I’ve been in a real igloo and I live with the real people.

The word Eskimo is originally Algonquin, but it is also the only word that applies to ALL of the northern tribes. By calling them all Inuit you insult and/or ignore the Yupik and Iñupiat, who are not Inuit and should not be lumped in with them.
I was taught to refer to them collectively as the Aleutian-tribes, but it's not my field so I don't know what they'd prefer.
