Nanna, I'm old enough to remember George Reeves (eerie coincidence on the names) and Phyllis Coates/Noel Neill from the 1950s TV series. Coates and Neill lived to be 96 and 95 respectively. Reeves died at 45 from what was ruled a suicide, though some suspected foul play. IIRC, after Christopher Reeve's tragic accident and paralysis, there was some talk of a Superman "curse."

Superman is from Cleveland, Ohio, USA. That's where his two teenage creators lived. Schuster and Siegel. And didn't Ma and Pa Kent live on a farm in Iowa? Superman lived in Metropolis as an adult but he wasn't "from" there.
