Jonesy, Of course you know that the meter-metre distinction is the British English usage. What was it Churchill said, something about one people divided by a common language. the "re" as in theatre vs. theater reflects French heritage. Noah Webster championed simplified spellings for American English, where the words are spelled as they're pronounced. Being a fan of various British books & TV shows, I do enjoy our completely different words, e.g. elevator vs. lift. I was tickled to read 9nce that to "knock up" someone supposedly meant knock on their door, as in visit in British slang, whereas in American slang, it means to impregnate them. 🇺🇲 🇬🇧

Jonesy, Metric measurements make much more sense and a worldwide quiz can't cover all types of measure. In Britain, we used to have imperial measurements, but in 1971 we changed to metric.. In my childhood measurements for everything were complicated and seemed irrational, now much simpler.

TRUE CANADIAN Laurel, 3 3rd world countries don't use the metric system - Libya, Myanmar, and the US!😄. Whilst on the subject, a meter is an instrument for measuring flow, pressure, voltage, etc. A metre is a unit of measurement.
