Nexus 6, It was named after Sir Benjamin Hall, (who later became Lord Llanover) a 19th century Liberal politician, who had very many responsibilities, one (minor) one of which was the care of the buildings making up the Palace of Westminster. He was 6 foot 4 inches tall, which was unusual then. The bell was enormous and was unofficially nicknamed after him, and the name stuck.
Odd fact: he and his wife, Augusta, Lady Hall, were devoted to improving and promoting the language and culture of Wales (a very poor country at the time) and one way was was via tourism. Augusta designed what is now the National Costume of Wales - but only for women. She never created one for men as she thought they would refuse to wear one!

Barb, You are totally wrong.. Europe is a Continent made up of many countries, and the UK is one of them, and always will be. The European Union is an artificial, man-made - fairly recent - political grouping of SOME of those countries, who can join or leave it whenever they wish. There has never been a moment when every country in Europe was a member, and it is called European since that is _where_ it is located: not because it comprises all of them. Some,, like neutral Switzerland, would never join.
